Hi everyone

Its Canada Day today so I have a few extra minutes to sit in front of the computer.  So I guess the best use of my time is to give you an update on what is happening with me.

The most exciting news for me is that “Into the Pride” is almost done and ready for air.  I have a few more little things to do for it, and then we are finished.  The air date is set for Aug 13 on Animal Planet.  I hope you are as excited as me.  This is a real special show for me.  It is one of the best representations of me that any of my shows have delivered to this point.  You wont see much “hosting” in this show, its just me being me with some bad ass lions.  Get ready!

I am starting a show called Savaged in a few weeks.  I am looking forward to that.  It is a derivative of my old show After the Attack.  We have added a whole bunch of new stuff to really dive into the subject of attacks.  It should be both interesting and exciting.  Get ready for some seriously slow motion animals.  It will let us see the power of animals in a whole new way

I have also been discussing a new show that I am doing called “Worlds Most Deadliest Towns”.  We are going to be looking at the life of people who are living in places where they are not the top of the food chain.  I want to go and find out what its like to live in a town that you are constantly being hunted by some of the worlds best predators.  I think it will be a humbling experiance meeting people who are dealing with this kind of threat on a daily basis.  How do you live and do your normal everyday tasks while looking under every bush and in every puddle, trying to find every hiding space that a predator could use in case you are being hunted?

I have also really been having fun with Twitter.  For the first time in a long time I have had access to fans of my shows.  Its been so fun getting to read everyone’s replies and getting feedback from everyone.  I know I have a bunch questions that i am due to answer I just don’t have them in front of me.  I will try to spend a day going through them all and blogging my reply.

     Give you animals a hug!

     DAVE!

    Dave,
I own a pet store named Aqua Terra in Wauwatosa, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee. I bought the store 2 years ago because I love all kinds of animals and I wanted to help people understand the relationships that can be formed with all kinds of animals.
I had to write to you to say that I have the utmost respect for you. Your understanding of animals is remarkable. It is something that I try to teach my customers about. Your shows educate the public about wild animals in a way that is very refreshing and informative! Keep up the great work!
I have always loved the big cats and wanted to be around them, but have never had the chance. Maybe one day I will have that oportunity.
However, I appreciate the fact that you do not promote the idea of keeping these large cats as pets. Too many people make the mistake of thinking that they can care for an animal like that, and the animal ends up not being taken care of properly, abused, or worse.
We started selling reptiles along with the fresh and salt water fish that we offer. One of our philosophies is to make sure that the customer is educated in caring for the animal that they are interested in owning, BEFORE they purchase it. We would rather NOT sell an animal than to allow it to go to a home where it will not be cared for or abused.
If you should ever be in the Milwaukee area, please feel free to drop by. We are located at 6817 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa, WI.
    Sincerely,
    Darren Pittman, Owner
    Aqua Terra

Dave, I saw your special, it made me want to learn more. More about your work, your successes and sadly, your failures (although I am not happy about those). Also, while I watched the special on primetime, I couldn’t help but wonder…he sounds like a fellow Cannuck! Then on your site, you mentioned Canada Day! YOU MUST BE!!!
    Where are you from?
    Do you have talks?
I am in the middle of adopting a 15 yr old girl through fostercare, and she (as many other teens) love lions and tigers. We LOVED the special. We live near Washington DC…planning to be out this way?

    Hey Dave,

I am sure you have no doubt been asked this a million times, but I was wondering if it would ever be possible to be able to meet a big cat or a wolf or *gulp* Great White…… I am amazed at how brave you are. So calm with those big cats in the new series that came out. I really feel like I could learn quite a bit on how to calm down around animals in general.

I have been training dogs since I was 11. Started out with guide dogs which was only corrective training. Did that for 5 years. Got trained in positive reinforcement and then worked for a pro dog trainer that was the team captain for schutzhund for many years. He could get pretty hostile….

Anyways, I don’t expect much from this post, but it never hurts to ask! You just never know. I just think it would be amazing being able to meet a big cat. I am about to graduate with my associates in animal science and my license as a veterinary technician. So, if anything, maybe I could be around them for medical reasons? haha

    Really enjoying your new series!

    Take care

    Hey Dave,

Wanted to clarify ” I really feel like I could learn quite a bit on how to calm down around animals in general.”

What I mean is that I tend to get aggressive with predators because I know that they could easily hurt me and I don’t like the idea of them thinking that they are boss. However, I would love to learn to be easier going around them. I didn’t mean to come across like I am afraid and nervous around animals… If I was then I am certainly in the wrong field! LOL

I know you are extremely busy, but I was wondering if you know if it is possible to work at say a zoo and just care for the predators medically? I have always been interested in big cats, especially Tigers. I also love wolves. If I can’t work with predators then I would rather work with horses (saying I am obsessed is putting it lightly LOL).

I am not entirely sure why I am writing this to you. Not like you have a clue who I am… Just that I figured if anyone had advise for working with predators it would be you. I think that the job would be easier working with predators at a zoo than say working at an equine clinic or with people that use horses for racing…. That is brutal on the horses and it just makes me so angry that they put such young horses through so much! I mean, they might as well say its ok for a 10 year old kid to run a 26 mile marathon or start lifting heavy weights and expect him to be perfectly sound by the time he is 20!

Well, I don’t know of any other way to talk to you. Probably shouldn’t publish this post.

Well, I don’t mean to sound like I am expecting anything from you. Just thought I would give a shot in the dark. See what happens.

    Respectfully,

    Kimberlee Jones
